WHAT IS ANGSTROM INNOVATION?
Angstrom Innovation is a DNA sequencing lab in Berkeley, California, that sequences plasmids, linear amplicons, and bacterial and yeast genomes on Oxford Nanopore long-read instruments. Angstrom says samples that arrive by 4 p.m. Pacific get data back by 8 a.m. the next morning, Monday to Friday. Angstrom joined the Cypher AI Marketplace as a sequencing partner in July 2026, and as of October 2026 it has 16 listings there, the largest catalog of any provider.
Angstrom's whole-plasmid service covers any plasmid up to 30 kb, according to the company, and each result includes FASTQ data, automated annotations and an assembled plasmid sequence.
WHAT IS CULTUREPREP, AND WHY SKIP THE MINIPREP?
CulturePrep is Angstrom's workflow for sequencing a whole plasmid straight from a liquid culture. Angstrom's instructions are short: skip the miniprep, send 200 µL of grown culture, and get whole-plasmid data the next day.
The saving shows up in routine clone checks. A synthetic biology team verifying a round of assemblies usually picks colonies, grows them overnight, minipreps each one, quantifies the DNA and then ships it. With CulturePrep, the overnight culture is the sample, so the miniprep and quantification steps drop out for every clone. Whole-plasmid data also checks the entire construct at once, so a point mutation in the backbone, a multimer or a second plasmid shows up in the same report as the insert, where primer-by-primer Sanger reads can miss them.
WHAT CAN YOU ORDER FROM ANGSTROM INNOVATION ON CYPHER AI?
As of October 2026, Angstrom's 16 Marketplace listings fall into five groups, all priced per sample. Whole-plasmid sequencing from purified DNA is $7 per sample for 10 µL at 20 to 200 ng/µL, or $10 for lower-concentration samples. CulturePrep is $15 per sample, and its listings vary by culture medium and by what you send: a dense liquid culture is processed overnight, and a freshly inoculated colony takes two days.
Angstrom's linear amplicon sequencing is $7 per sample for about 0.4 Mb of data, or $10 for about 0.8 Mb. Bacterial whole-genome sequencing, for genomes under 7 Mb, is $75 per sample from purified gDNA or $90 if Angstrom extracts the DNA, and yeast whole-genome sequencing, for genomes under 16 Mb, is $100 per sample or $115 with extraction. The listings show estimated turnarounds of 0 to 1 day for plasmid and amplicon work, 1 to 2 days for bacterial genomes and 1 to 3 days for yeast genomes.
WHO IS ANGSTROM INNOVATION A GOOD FIT FOR?
Angstrom is likely a good fit for synthetic biology, protein engineering and microbiology teams that verify clones or strains every week and want each one checked end to end. Bay Area labs can use Angstrom's dropbox network, which the company says covers more than 50 locations with free weekday pickup. Labs elsewhere in the US can mail samples to Berkeley, and Angstrom says mailed samples get the same next-day turnaround once they arrive; international submissions are handled case by case.
HOW DO YOU ORDER FROM ANGSTROM INNOVATION ON CYPHER AI?
You can browse Angstrom's listings at cypherbio.ai/services without an account. To place an order, create a free Cypher AI account. Angstrom's services have listed per-sample prices, so there's no quote step, and you pay Angstrom directly, then send the samples by dropbox or mail.
Cypher AI's view is that scientists shouldn't have to jump between protocols, spreadsheets, emails, service portals and manual forms to get routine R&D work done, and we call ordering from inside the work "agentic ordering." On Pro and Enterprise plans, the Cypher AI assistant can draft a Marketplace order from samples in the LIMS, and you review and submit it yourself. The order records the project, ELN entry and samples it came from, and Angstrom's sequencing files arrive on the order, where you can add them to the project.
